Total Recall

Well, it is true, they are not going to mars.

I was intrigued by a reenactment of the 90 action classic, Colin is a good actor who deserves more credit and Kate Beckinsale is well, Kate Bekinsale, last but not least, Bryan Cranston as the main bad guy is a promising sign.

Unfortunately, the movie doesn't quite know how to make good use of the cast, instead the movie relies heavily on action, which is pretty good, the car chase is pretty fun as well. Also the environments are pretty well design, the movie looks amazing and the robot cops were my favorite.

The main problem with this movie is that it doesn't take advantage of this environment, while they are trying to develop the world and its inhabitant, it felt like they focused to much time on the less important part of this world, rendering the actors best efforts into creating a meaningful story, useless.
Don't get me wrong, Farrell is convincing, Beckinsale is great as the deadly women with daddy issues and I just love Cranston presence on screen. The story simply isn't enough to carry those performance in full.

The movie also play with a few classic references from the original movie to interesting effect, I have no particular grudge against the fact that the movie is largely different from the 90 movie. It would not have made much sense to recreate the exact some story line anyway.

All in all, Total Recall is a good action movie worth watching if you are looking for a fun time, don't look for much more.
